We prayed for good weather for SEMO Electric Cooperative’s 2021 Annual Meeting and the good Lord delivered. Thank you to the members and guests who participated in the drive-thru event May 13 at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Grounds. My word to explain the day was “calm” as we were onsite for about 15 hours (the event was open to members for 10 hours) and the weather was beautiful and smiles and laughter were everywhere.

While my wife Debbie and I were standing in line to board Southwest Flight 1966 from St. Louis, a young lady approached me with two boarding passes and asked how boarding worked. I explained the process to the couple. They took a seat, not far from where we were standing, to wait their time to board. Eye contact. Conversation ignited. It was the couple’s first flight. To say they were nervous was an understatement.

We are going to do our best to have a little fun as we host SEMO Electric’s 2021 Annual Meeting on Thursday, May 13 at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo grounds. Rain or shine, it will be a drive-thru event from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Plus, we will have a live concert from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with Brothers Walker and Doug Johnson. You are welcome to park your vehicle and enjoy. We would appreciate prayers for no severe storms. Come visit with Team SEMO!

While some non-profit and governmental organizations like churches and schools are exempt from property taxes, SEMO Electric Cooperative is not exempt from paying property taxes.

Each year, the Cooperative pays hundreds of thousands of dollars in local property taxes that support important social services like health care, education, and emergency management.
