Scholarship Application Deadline

Winter Energy Bills

The 2020 edition of the Farmers' Almanac suggests a suspenseful start to January over the eastern half of the country. This may mean frequent freefalling precipitation as well as strong and gusty winds. And a cold winter can bring an equally cold reality: higher heat bills.  Keep your costs and energy use as low as possible by acting now to avoid energy bill shock. Two big ideas: 1) Start with a heating system checkup. Keep your heating system clean and in tip-top working order. 2) Use a programmable thermostat to set your temperature lower when you’re away to prevent energy waste from heating an empty house. This can help you save about $180 each year. Take time now so you can save money later.

High School Seniors

For high school seniors wishing for a scholarship to attend a college or a technical school in the fall of 2020, the application period is open until January 31, 2020. Applications are available from area high school counselors at your local high school or online at

For 2019, 77 high school seniors each were awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the SEMO Electric Cooperative Foundation, thanks to SEMO Electric member-owners who participate in Operation Round Up. Operation Round Up is a program that rounds up a member's bill to the nearest dollar each month. Thank you for helping make people’s lives – especially youth adults – lives better. A little change makes a big difference.

GoSEMO Fiber

In November 2017, we had just started building the fiber ring for SEMO Electric Cooperative’s GoSEMO fiber-to-the-home project. Today, we are serving nearly 3,000 subscribers with fiber-fast internet, TV and phone services. As we work to build the entire $40 million GoSEMO Fiber project, picture in your mind a high school track. It took us about nine months to build the track (the fiber ring). Now, we have completed eight laps (fiber construction to eight substations: Miner, Advance, Bloomfield, Idalia, Tilsit, Lilbourn, Kelly and Ardeola). We still have eight more laps (Vanduser, Dogwood, Matthews, Anniston, Wyatt, Frisco, Delta and Wolf Island) to finish. It has been a remarkable journey as we are making people’s lives better. Team SEMO appreciates the support we are receiving. Visit to see regular updates.
