Safe. Reliable. Low-cost.
Did you know SEMO Electric's residential electricity rate per kWh (or per unit of energy) is the same today as it was on January 1, 2013? Team SEMO works hard to control costs and seek best practices to save you money. We have made incremental adjustments to the fixed or basic charge called the daily fixed charge. It is a flat fee designed to recover a portion of the cost of delivering electric energy to all members. The fixed charge is billed by the day to match the number of meter reading days in the billing period. The charge is reflective of the investment in poles, wires, transformers, and equipment that it takes to provide you with electric service. It takes just as much equipment to deliver one kilowatt-hour as it does 1,000 kilowatt-hours.
Where does SEMO Electric gets its electricity - wholesale power?
Associated Electric, an electric generation and transmission cooperative based in Springfield, Missouri, provides wholesale power to six regional cooperatives, including M&A Electric Power Cooperative of Poplar Bluff and 51 local cooperative systems, including SEMO Electric, in Missouri, southeast Iowa and northeast Oklahoma that serve 910,000 members. Associated provides a balance of electric generation sources ensures power is reliable, affordable and responsibly produced. In 2020, Associated added power from two new wind farms in the northwest part of the state, bringing the cooperative’s total to eight wind farms and 1,240 megawatts. Coal, natural gas, hydropower and wind make sure the power Associated produces meets member needs through a balanced strategy.
Regarding the cost of electricity, how does Missouri compare to other states? Much better. Take a look.
