Electric Rebates for Members

Because SEMO Electric is owned by the members we serve, we also take a major interest in energy efficiency efforts. Energy conservation and efficiency improvements reduce the need for electricity infrastructure, help manage electricity demand, and lower the energy bills of member-consumers.

Power Flow

We offer rebates for some water heaters, air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps. Please see below rebate application PDF forms. SEMO Electric also helps local businesses, churches and schools with lighting rebates. Each rebate has its own guidelines. Air Source Heat Pump

Rebates:

  • $250 per ton from SEMO with an Energy Star Plus 2 rated at a minimum of 17.0 SEER; subject to change without notice and must be installed by a certified dealer.
  • Federal and State tax incentives may apply. Consult your tax advisor for details.
  • Supplemental heat must be controlled by an automatic thermostat.

round Source Heat Pump

Ground Source Heat Pumps are a way to maximize your efficiency by up to 300 percent and reduce your home heating costs by as much as 50-70 percent.

Rebates:

  • $750 per ton if it meets SEMO Electric's installation requirements. ($250 per ton from SEMO Electric Cooperative and $500 per ton from AECI; conditions apply.
  • Limit of 10-ton for residential and 50-ton for commercial.
  • Unit must meet EER requirements.
  • Federal and state tax incentives may apply. Consult your tax advisor for details.

For the replacement of the indoor ground source heat pump unit only (does not include loop system), a $150 per ton rebate will apply. If the indoor heat pump (compressor) unit is replaced, it must be a gain of 3 EER rating points and meet the Take Control & Save Program requirements. A Manual J calculation is not required when replacing indoor unit only.

High Efficiency Motor

High Efficiency Motor rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit.

  • All new motors must meet NEMA Premium standards.
  • All old motors must be properly disposed of.
  • The appliance must be installed where electricity is supplied by SEMO Electric Cooperative.
  • Submit a copy of the receipt within 90 days of purchase.

Water Heater Rebate

To qualify for the $165 water heater rebate:

  • The electric water heater must be installed where electricity is supplied by SEMO Electric Cooperative.
  • Water heater must have an energy factor of .90 or greater.
  • Limit two rebates for up to two(2) 40-gallon or larger water heaters.
  • Provide make, model, energy factor and serial number of appliance; information found on shipping box label. If replacing a water heater, please provide make, model and serial number of old water heater.
  • Complete a separate application for each installation site.
  • Include a copy of the original, dated sales receipt with application.
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed for rebates.
  • Submit completed application and sales receipt within 90 days of purchase.  Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing.
  • Hybrid heat pump and tankless water heaters are not eligible for rebates.

Advanced Thermostats

To qualify for the $50 advanced thermostat rebate:

  • The advanced thermostat must be installed where electricity is supplied by SEMO Electric Cooperative.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the cooperative.
  • Rebates are available for new or existing homes.
  • The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit up to $50.00 per unit.
  • The thermostat must be Energy Star rated.
  • Limit of two (2) per member address/location.
  • Provide manufacturer, model, cooling tons controlled, and SEER of unit.
  • Include a copy of the original, dated sales receipt with application.
  • Member agrees to not install or operate any form of back-up heat, electric or otherwise, without expressed written consent of SEMO Electric Cooperative. Failure to comply will result in the repayment of all rebates paid to member.
  • Rebates may be subject to load control programs. The participant agrees to allow the cooperative to control their heating and cooling equipment now or in the future.
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed for rebates.
  • Submit completed application and sales receipt within 90 days of purchase. Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing.
  • Compete a separate application for each installation site.

Commercial Lighting

Rebates available up to 40 percent of the cost of the fixture or 6 cents per kWh savings, whichever is less. Facility must have more than 10 light fixtures. Annual limits apply.

Window-Unit Air Conditioner

Receive a $50 rebate for the first-time purchase or replacement of an older, inefficient unit with a high efficiency, Energy Star -rated window-unit air conditioner. Limit one per address.

Programmable Timer for Engine Block

The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit.

  • Must be a programmable timer.
  • Timer must be heavy duty and designed for outdoors and cold weather resistant.
  • Rated for a minimum of 15 amps or 1,800 watts capacity.

Mini-Split

To qualify for rebate:

  • Equipment must be installed by a certified dealer and meet the Energy Star  and +2 SEER rating of 17.
  • Mini-Split heat pumps must use fossil fuel for back up heating requirements-wood burning systems and electric resistance units are NOT eligible for a rebate.
  • Mini-Split heat pumps cannot use electric resistance for heat for backup.
  • Rebates are limited to a maximum of 50 tons commercial and 10 tons residential.

Variable Frequency Drives for H.V.A.C. Pumps/Fans Rebate

The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit. The rebate dollar limit is $50 per brake horsepower.

  • VFD must be controlled.
  • This rebate is not for the replacement of existing VFDs. 
  • Applications include: hot water pump, chilled water pump, HVAC fan.

Basement / Crawl Space / Slab Insulation

The rebate amount is 50% up to $500. the cost of the insulation when done in conjunction with the installation of a ground source heat pump.

  • Rebate program is limited to cooperative services that purchase 6,000 or more kWh's from the cooperative on an annual basis.
  • For basement/crawlspace walls in Zone 3 insulation must be an R-10.
  • Concrete Slab floors should have a minimum of a 1'' inch-thick waterproof insulation board between the entire outside edge of the slab and foundation.

Energy Star Heat Pump Water Heater

The rebate amount is limited to 50 percent (50%) of the total cost of the unit.

  • The appliance must be Energy Star rated.
  • If the new unit replaces an old unit, the efficiency rating of the old unit must be less than 0.9
  • Tankless water heaters are NOT eligible for this program.
  • Gas water heaters are NOT eligible for this program.
  • Replacing a gas water heater with a heat pump water heater is eligible for this program.
  • Limit of up to two (2) per member.
  • Rebate applies only to 40 gallon or larger heat pump water heaters.

Commercial and industrial account incentives/rebates may be taxable and if greater than $600, should be reported to the IRS by the cooperative as income to recipient on IRS Form 1099-MISC unless the member has identified themselves as a corporation or as tax exempt entity.
