The Friday Feature w/Sean: Olympian Ryan Murphy

✅ Welcome to Week 222 of The Friday Feature: Olympian Ryan Murphy – the fulfillment of the pursuit of excellence looks different for each of us.

This week, I was in Indianapolis for work, not realizing the USA Swimming Team Trials were happening there, too. After a long day of meetings and then catching up on emails in my room on the 29th floor, I got in the elevator to go to a business dinner.

The elevator stopped at the 26th floor, and just before the doors closed, an athletic young man with a large suitcase joined me. We exchanged a few words, and I assumed he was checking out.

When we reached the second floor, we found ourselves near the hotel’s ice machines. To my surprise, I ended up helping four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Ryan Murphy fill three pillowcases with ice and zip up his suitcase as he prepared to head back to his room for an ice bath about three hours before trying to qualify for his third Olympics!

Later, as I arrived for dinner, and as God works, my friend Kevin Wheeler asked, out of the blue, if I wanted to go to the swimming trials. Off we go. Guess who swims? Guess who qualifies for his third Olympics?
