SEMO Electric Sends Team to Mississippi

Six members of Team SEMO traveled to Pontotoc, Mississippi, to assist Pontotoc Electric Power Association with power restoration following Winter Storm Fern. Pontotoc is about 250 miles south of Sikeston and west of Tupelo.

The Missouri crews joined other mutual aid teams working around the clock to assess damage, clear fallen trees, and rebuild power lines while prioritizing safety amid extremely cold and icy conditions. The team also traveled with cots, air mattresses, water, and other supplies, as places to rest and eat are never guaranteed during widespread power outages.

SEMO Electric has a strong tradition of assisting fellow electric cooperatives during major outages and disasters, reflecting the cooperative principle of cooperation among cooperatives. SEMO Electric deployed crews for both in-state and out-of-state restoration efforts in 2025 and likewise received mutual aid from several cooperatives following devastating storms most recently in May 2024 and May 2025.
