The 2025-2026 application period is now closed.
In May 2026, 68 students were each awarded a $875 scholarship Visit Rural Missouri – July 2025. A total of $59,500 is due to Operation Round-Up, a program that rounds up a member’s bill to the nearest dollar. Since its beginning in 2008, $1,217,390 has been awarded to help area youth succeed. Scholarships are for high school seniors whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) is a member-owner of SEMO Electric Cooperative.
One might think the penny has lost its power in today’s economy. However, a few pennies can make a real impact on education. The student can receive the SEMO Electric Foundation Scholarship only once time. It is not renewable. The scholarship monies will be awarded before the upcoming 2026 fall semester or quarter with the student’s valid proof of enrollment as a full-time student at the accredited college, university, or vocational school by June 1, 2026.
Operation Round-Up is a program that rounds up a member’s bill to the nearest dollar. Participating in Operation Round-Up is easy. Each month, SEMO Electric simply “rounds up” the electric bill of participating members to the next highest dollar. For example, a member’s monthly bill of $52.73 would be rounded up to $53, with the additional 27 cents going to the Operation Round-Up. Donations are tax-deductible.

The Missouri Electric Cooperatives’ Youth Conference and Leadership Experience (CYCLE) tour and the National Rural Electric Association’s Youth Tour are leadership building programs that bring high school students from around the state and nation together.
The CYCLE Tour is for high-school sophomores and is a four-day program in Jefferson City. Participants gather with other students from Missouri to hear national and local speakers who challenge them to be better leaders when they go back home.
Students will tour the Missouri Supreme Court and Capitol Building. While in the Capitol building, the sophomores will sit in the Missouri House Chambers and go through the process of how to pass a bill.
High School Juniors are eligible for the Youth Tour, a leadership building trip to Washington D.C. Winners of the trip will meet with other students from Missouri and travel to the nation’s capital for a one-week trip where participants hear national speakers and see many of the memorials and tour museums and historic sites like Mount Vernon.
