The Friday Feature w/Sean: I Love My White Shoes

What can a room full of second graders—and a cat with colorful shoes—teach us about life? Welcome to Week 341 of The Friday Feature. At a Milwaukee city school, we, Amy Butler and others from Utility 2030 Leadership Collaborative (U2030), had the opportunity to spend time with some second graders. What we didn’t expect was a little singing along with the reading. The book was Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. And the lesson was simple: No matter what life throws at you, keep moving forward.

That’s a reminder for all of us. We all have challenges. We all have days when things don’t go as planned. Sometimes we have to pick up the pieces, take another step, and keep trying.

White shoes, red shoes, or blue shoes—the color doesn’t matter. What matters is that you keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Sometimes a children’s story gives grown-ups the reminder we need. Thanks for watching and sharing Week 341 of The Friday Feature. Keep Pushing Forward, and I will see you next Friday.

Amy, thank you for the guest appearance. Angie Byford, thank you for the video work, while spending time with the students.

Every Friday since March 27, 2020, I’ve shared a story to encourage, inspire, and remind us that some of life’s greatest lessons come from everyday moments. Thank you for being part of this journey and for sharing these messages with others.

If you’d like more stories like this, my book, Change Me. Bless Them., is available on Amazon. Through real stories and practical lessons, it reminds us that lasting change begins by looking inward before pointing outward. All royalties in 2026 will be donated to the Kabuki Syndrome Foundation.
