As we celebrate this golden anniversary, I’m reminded of the importance of cherishing every day. Don’t take a single moment for granted. Spend time doing what you love with the people you love, and always keep pushing forward.

I was just seven years old, and Mom was a single parent. On this very day, half a century ago— which was also a Friday—we were preparing for a wedding that would take place at 12:15 a.m. It’s strange how things work out, isn’t it? That day marked the beginning of a journey that has led us to this incredible milestone: Mom and Dad’s 50th wedding anniversary.

So, what has kept them together for all these years? Love, of course—but also the joys of family: kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and the steady rhythm of more than 7,000 games of bowling. Every year of their marriage, they’ve bowled together, sharing not just a sport, but a commitment that’s stood the test of time. They truly found their sweet spot.

And in case you were wondering: three years after the wedding, Dad adopted me as his own. Two years later, I was blessed with a sister. It’s incredible to think how fast these 50 years have gone by.
