✅ A Grandfather’s Message His Grandkids Will Never Forget. Welcome to Week #277 of The Friday Feature. What if someone handed you the ball and said, “You’re the quarterback now—in the Game of Life”? That’s what Gary Adams told his grandchildren. But when I heard the message, I realized it wasn’t just for them—it was for all of us.

It’s a message about values. About choices. About protecting what matters most.

This week, ask yourself: Are you leading with faith, hope, and charity? Are you relying on honesty, loyalty, hard work, and self-respect? Are you protecting the ball?

❤️ After the tragic events in Texas last week, this message struck even deeper. My heart broke—especially for the parents who dropped their kids off at summer camp, expecting to pick them up, hear their stories, and sort through their messy laundry.

Debbie and I took our kids to so many camps—4-H, soccer, football, wrestling, drama. We always—always—expected to see them again. To smell them (showers weren’t always a priority), and to watch them fall asleep in the back seat.

Gary’s message:

“I am giving you the ball and I am naming you Quarterback for your team in the Game of Life. I am your Grandfather, who loves you very much, therefore I will give it to you straight. This game you are playing is a long game. There will be no timeouts and there will be no substitutions. You will be playing the entire game all your life. You will be the quarterback and you will be calling all the signals, but the other three players in your backfield have great reputations. They are faith, hope, and charity. You will also be working behind a truly powerful offensive line. From end to end, they are honesty, loyalty, self-respect, study, cleanliness, hard work, and devotion to duty. The goalposts are the gates of heaven. God is the referee and he is the sole official. He will make all the rules and there will be no appeal to them. You know these rules as the Ten Commandments and you will play them strictly in accordance with your religion. Now there is one very important ground rule that I want you to follow. It is, as you would have others do unto you, do you likewise unto them. Now here is the ball. This ball represents an immortal soul. I want you to take this ball and I want you to hang on to it. I want you to protect it. I don’t want you to fumble. Now I want you to go out there on that football field of life and let’s see what you can do with it.”
