The Friday Feature w/Sean: I Don’t Like Me
I have things I don’t like about myself. Lately, mine seems to be opening my mouth when I should be listening. Trying to be funny. Trying to connect. Trying a little too hard. It’s Week 342 of The Friday Feature
It’s been one of those months. I have shortcomings. Some I see. Some I need other people to point out. And when they do, it can feel terrible. But when I stop being defensive and listen, their honesty helps me grow. It grows my faith. It makes me better.
There’s a lyric from Brandon Lake’s song How Good God Is that speaks to me: “Thank God for the fire that forged me with faith.” I don’t enjoy the discomfort of seeing where I’ve fallen short. But I can be thankful for what it teaches me and for the people who care enough to tell me the truth. I want to treat people the way I want to be treated. But sometimes, I fail. Good intentions don’t erase the impact of my words. I need to own it, apologize, and do better.
And I need to remember grace. Be grateful when someone gives it to me. And give myself enough grace to learn from a mistake without beating myself up forever. I’m not perfect.
If you’re having one of those days, weeks, months, or years, you’re not alone. We have things we need to work on. That doesn’t mean we have nothing left to give. You matter. Keep trying. Keep pushing forward.

Every Friday since March 27, 2020, I’ve shared a story to encourage, inspire, and remind us that some of life’s greatest lessons come from everyday moments. Thank you for being part of this journey and for sharing these messages with others.
If you’d like more stories like this, my book, Change Me. Bless Them., is available on Amazon: https://a.co/d/0bEjrO17. Through real stories and practical lessons, it reminds us that lasting change begins by looking inward before pointing outward. All royalties in 2026 will be donated to the Kabuki Syndrome Foundation.
