Take Control and Save Rebate Program

Because SEMO Electric is owned by the members we serve, we also take a major interest in energy efficiency efforts. Energy conservation and efficiency improvements reduce the need for electricity infrastructure, help manage electricity demand, and lower the energy bills of member-consumers.

We offer rebates for some water heaters, air-source heat pumps, and ground-source heat pumps. Please see below the rebate application PDF forms. SEMO Electric also helps local businesses, churches, and schools with lighting rebates. Each rebate has its own guidelines. Ground Source Heat Pump.

• $750 per ton ($250 per ton from SEMO Electric Cooperative and $500 per ton from AECI; conditions apply.)
• Limit of 10 tons for residential and 50 tons for commercial.
• Replacement of electric resistance heat.
• Replacement of existing natural gas or propane heating system.
• Replacement of an existing central air conditioner or dual-fuel heat pump.
• Electric or fossil fuel backup heat will be allowed for ground source heat pumps.
• Manual J required.
• AHRI & Invoice submission online required.

For the replacement of the indoor ground source heat pump unit only (does not include the loop system), a $150 per ton rebate will apply. If the indoor heat pump (compressor) unit is replaced, it must gain 3 EER rating points and meet the Take Control & Save Program requirements. A Manual J calculation is not required when replacing indoor units only.

Advanced Thermostats

• Rebate amount of the thermostat is 50% of the cost, not to exceed $50.00.
• Energy Star rated.
• Invoice submission online.

Commercial Lighting

• Rebates available up to 40% of the cost of the fixture or 6 cents per kilowatt (kWh) savings, whichever is less.
• The facility must have more than 10 light fixtures. Annual limits apply.
• Itemized receipt, lighting inventory form, and application must be filled out completely.

Air Source Heat Pump & Mini-Split (ducted) Systems:

•  $300 per ton for replacement systems with existing fossil fuel onsite for backup, and $500 per ton for new or replacement systems with new fossil fuel added for backup.
• Dual fuel requirement
• Replacement system with existing fossil fuel backup.
• New or replacement system with new fossil fuel backup.
• Energy Star cold climate rating of 8.1 HSPF2 or greater.
• AHRI & Invoice submission online required.

Mini-Split (ductless)

•   $150 per condensing unit
• ·Cannot be equipped with electric auxiliary heat.
•  Energy Star certified.
•  Limit of 2 condensing units/meter. 
•  AHRI & Invoice submission online required.

 Heat Pump Water Heater

• Rebate amount is 50% of the cost of the water heater, up to $750.00.
• The energy efficiency rating must meet DOE standards.
• For new construction or the replacement of an existing electric heater that is less than 0.90 efficiency or replacement of gas water heater.
• Limit two (2) per meter.
• AHRI & Invoice submission online required.

Commercial and industrial account incentives/rebates may be taxable and if greater than $600, should be reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by the cooperative as income to the recipient on IRS Form 1099-MISC unless the member has identified themselves as a corporation or as a tax-exempt entity.
